About the local elections

The local elections will be held on Thursday 3rd May 2018, with 57 councillors being elected to Haringey Council. 27 of these councillors will represent wards in the Parliamentary constituency of Tottenham. Polls will open at 7:00am and close at 10:00pm.

On the ballot paper you will be asked to select three candidates - if you are backing your local Conservative team put an X in the boxes next to the Conservative Party Candidates. Every vote counts in a local election, so please remember to cast yours on 3rd May.

Reasons to Vote Conservative

Labour have held control of Haringey Council for decades – and in this time the borough has been marred in controversy and become notorious for its breath-taking incompetence and high Council Tax rates. Worryingly, Jeremy Corbyn’s group Momentum have seized control of Tottenham Labour Party – forcing out moderate councillors and candidates, and stirring up hatred and division. Allegations of sexism, anti-Semitism and bullying – including from Labour’s own Leader of Haringey Council, Cllr Claire Kober OBE – have emerged. Throughout this mayhem and mismanagement, Liberal Democrat councillors have turned a blind eye and completely failed to hold Labour-led Haringey Council to account.

Only a strong team of Conservative councillors will be able to reverse the rot and restore proper governance in Haringey. Councillors are responsible for the whole of Haringey, including Tottenham and neighbouring areas such as Wood Green and Hornsey. So, if elected, our team of Conservatives will:

  1. Fight to ensure good public services and a cleaner environment. We will rebuild Haringey's social and children's services, protect support for students in our schools and colleges with special educational needs and disabilities, clean up the borough with improved waste/recycling collections and street cleansing services, and protect the borough's public libraries and leisure centres. With this, we will ensure that our parks and playing fields are protected from development, including halting Labour's planned development on Tottenham Marshes and the River Lea at Tottenham Hale, and we will commence a new programme of extensive tree-planting to improve our toxic air quality.
  2. Reduce Council Tax rates and implement a sensible savings programme. Under Labour, Haringey currently has the THIRD highest Council Tax in Greater London. This is completely unacceptable and we will work to reduce Council Tax rates for hardworking local residents. Moreover, we will scrap vanity projects such as the Haringey People magazine, which acts as propaganda and personal promotion for Haringey's Labour councillors, and we will fight to put a stop to taxpayer-funded holidays abroad for senior Labour councillors.
  3. Rebuild our borough's reputation. When people think of Haringey, they think of the borough's tragic history with social services failings, they think of the third highest Council Tax in London, and they think of the borough which was crowned as London's dirtiest. We will work hard with partners in various sectors to improve our image and show people that we are proud to be residents of Tottenham, and Haringey more broadly.

If you believe in these ideals and want to stop Momentum’s hand-picked hard-left candidates, then vote for your three local Conservative candidates to stand up for you and your community on Thursday 3rd May 2018.
